The myrtle bush is a spontaneous species typical of the Mediterranean Shrub and Sardinia is the region where it is more present, where the berries are usually used to produce the famous myrtle liqueur. In this case they are used to enrich the honey.
From the bees’ point of view, the myrtle bushes are considered most of all a source of pollen. In the humid terrains it may create a nectar production and, if spread enough, it can create a monofloral honey. The tastiness of this unique product intrigues the honey connoisseurs and draws in even the ones that are not expert. This honey is ideal to be paired with cheeses. Perfect also to sweeten drinks, enrich fruit salads or white yoghurt and as filling for tasty pies and tarts.
